Midwestern Career College’s 8-week Phlebotomy Technician Program teaches students to draw blood from patients to be used for tests, transfusions, research, or blood donations. 

Phlebotomists work within the medical world, mainly in hospitals, medical and diagnostic laboratories, blood donor centers, and doctors’ offices. Those who gravitate toward challenge, responsibility, and compassion will excel in this program and field.  

The definition of phlebotomy

The process of making a puncture in a vein, usually in the arm, with a cannula, for the purpose of drawing blood.  

What does a phlebotomist do

Phlebotomists draw blood for fests, perform blood transfusions, conduct research and run or assist with blood donations.  

What you’ll study

Upon successful completion of the program, graduates will 

  • have knowledge of the cardiovascular system 
  • know the role and responsibilities of the phlebotomist 
  • be able to perform quality assurance in a laboratory environment 
  • understand laboratory protocols 
  • demonstrate best practices for safety 
  • have a skill set utilizing various methods of draw
