Midwestern Career College’s Clinical Medical Assisting program prepares students for entry-level clinical and administrative healthcare support roles. Students receive instruction and hands-on training in patient care, phlebotomy, electrocardiography (EKG), medical terminology, clinical procedures, and medical office operations. The program also includes supervised clinical externship experience.

Yes. MCC’s Clinical Medical Assisting program includes a 165-hour clinical externship, giving students opportunities to apply their classroom and laboratory training in a healthcare workplace. The externship provides practical experience with clinical workflows, professional communication, and patient-care responsibilities under supervision.
How Is Clinical Medical Assisting Different From MCC’s Medical Assisting Program?

The primary difference is that Clinical Medical Assisting includes a supervised 165-hour externship, while MCC’s Medical Assisting Diploma program provides classroom and hands-on laboratory training without an externship. Students completing MCC’s Clinical Medical Assisting program may pursue professional certification pathways in medical assisting, phlebotomy, and EKG technology. Eligibility depends on the education, practical experience, examination, and other requirements established by each credentialing organization.
Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) through the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), for candidates who meet AAMA’s specific educational accreditation or alternative-pathway requirements.
Registered Phlebotomy Technician (RPT) through American Medical Technologists (AMT), subject to applicable additional practical experience requirements.
Certification is not automatically awarded upon completion of the program. Students should review current examination eligibility and practical requirements with the applicable credentialing organization.
