MCC Honors International Students with Festival of Cultures 2017

On November 18, 2017, Midwestern Career College celebrated its first annual Festival of Cultures. Students, staff, and faculty from MCC’s Vocational English as a Second Language and other allied healthcare programs joined together to share their cultures and diversity and enjoy the benefits of our worldwide, on-campus community.

According to Olga Gusak, vice president of academic affairs, “the Festival of Cultures is an expression of MCC’s appreciation for our international students. We are proud to host this event for this diverse, vibrant and creative community.”

Through this festival of cultures and diversity, MCC celebrates not just its diverse student population, but also its diverse faculty and staff.

International students, faculty and staff organized 30 tables representing different countries around the world, including Thailand, Pakistan, Ukraine, Kyrgyzstan, Poland, China, the Philippines, Mongolia, Bulgaria, India, Mexico, and Romania. The more than 150 visitors experienced samplings of traditional cuisine, clothing, and cultural artifacts at each country’s table.

Members of the MCC international community also showed off their talents through dance and song. A Brazilian couple danced a samba. An electroneurodiagnostic technologist instructor performed on the guitar for flamenco dancers. Romanian students performed a traditional dance.

Attendees were given a passport to collect stickers from each country whose table they visited.
