Midwestern Career College’s Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN) Program focuses on educating practical nursing students to develop strong clinical skills and sound clinical judgment, enabling them to deliver safe, high-quality, and effective nursing care.
The curriculum emphasizes the practical application of theory acquired in the classroom and skills lab, translating learning into real-world patient care across a variety of clinical settings and simulation laboratories. The program is designed to prepare students to sit for the NCLEX-PN® and to enter the nursing profession as safe, competent licensed practical nurses.
Additionally, the curriculum supports students in achieving the end-of-program student learning outcomes (EPSLOs) and required professional competencies.
About the LPN program
The Midwestern Career College Licensed Practical Nursing program centers on educating Practical Nursing students to develop strong clinical skills and clinical judgment in order to provide safe, high-quality, and effective nursing care. The program blends classroom instruction with immersive lab and clinical experience, preparing students for success in today’s healthcare environments.
What do LPNs do?
A Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) provides compassionate, hands-on patient care by monitoring vital signs, administering medications, assisting with activities of daily living, and supporting patients across a range of healthcare settings, including hospitals, clinics, schools, and long-term care facilities. LPNs work collaboratively with registered nurses and physicians to ensure safe, high-quality care while making a meaningful difference in patients’ lives each day.
LPN Program Curriculum
The curriculum emphasizes the practical application of theory acquired in the classroom and skills lab to mimic real-world patient care across a variety of clinical settings. In addition, students will have the opportunity to practice their clinical skills and judgement in a safe, controlled simulation environment. The program’s goal is to prepare students to take the NCLEX-PN® and to become safe, competent licensed practical nurses within the nursing profession. The curriculum is designed to support students in achieving the end-of-program student learning outcomes (EPSLOs) and required competencies.

Did You Know? The LPN Simulation Lab at MCC is a dedicated two-bed patient care lab designed to mirror a realistic clinical setting for LPN students. The Simulation Lab uses MedVision’s adult high-fidelity “Leonardo”, “Noelle”, and pediatric “Arthur” patient manikins.
Each manikin has capabilities that support basic nursing skills and advanced features such as advanced airway, neurological, and physiological functions for realistic clinical training. Learn more about the advanced capabilities of the “Leonardo” manikin from MedVision’s website!
MCC’s Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN) program includes a 360-hour clinical externship that blends work in the Simulation Lab with our high-fidelity training manikins, adult manikins “Leonardo” and “Noelle” and pediatric manikin “Arthur”, and clinical experience at an MCC-affiliated site. This externship provides a unique opportunity for a real-life field and patient-care experience, proving invaluable experience for students in their transition from an academic setting into the work environment.
