The accreditation became effective July 15, 2026, following a recommendation from the Joint Review Committee on Education in Diagnostic Medical Sonography (JRC-DMS). It applies to the program’s Abdominal-Extended concentration at Midwestern Career College in Chicago.
CAAHEP’s accreditation decision was based on the program’s compliance with the nationally established Standards and Guidelines for the Accreditation of Educational Programs in Diagnostic Medical Sonography.
The official accreditation decision cited no standards requiring corrective action and identified no areas of non-compliance. This finding reflects the program’s successful completion of a comprehensive external review conducted through the CAAHEP accreditation process.
The program’s next evaluation is scheduled for 2031.
CAAHEP accreditation provides independent confirmation that an educational program has been evaluated against nationally established standards for its profession.
CAAHEP makes accreditation decisions based on recommendations from profession-specific review committees. For Diagnostic Medical Sonography programs, that review is conducted by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Diagnostic Medical Sonography.
The accreditation process examines whether a program complies with established educational standards and accreditation policies. Accredited programs also participate in ongoing quality review designed to maintain continued compliance.
CAAHEP accreditation does not expire on a predetermined date. The accreditation status remains effective until the CAAHEP Board of Directors approves another accreditation status.
For current and future students, CAAHEP accreditation provides added confidence that the program has been independently evaluated against nationally established standards for diagnostic medical sonography education. It also means the program will continue to participate in ongoing review as Midwestern Career College works to maintain the quality, resources, and educational experiences expected of an accredited sonography program.
“Receiving CAAHEP accreditation is a proud milestone for our Diagnostic Medical Sonography program and a reflection of the dedication shown by our faculty, students, clinical partners, and the entire Midwestern Career College community. This recognition affirms that our program meets nationally established standards for sonography education while reinforcing our commitment to preparing compassionate, highly skilled sonographers who are ready to make a meaningful difference in patient care. We look forward to continuing to provide an exceptional educational experience as we prepare the next generation of healthcare professionals.”
— Dr. Zahra Ali, Program Director of Sonography Programs, CHEP, RDMS, RVT
The program’s Abdominal-Extended concentration prepares students to develop competencies related to sonographic imaging of abdominal anatomy and associated structures while learning to work effectively with patients, faculty, clinical professionals, and healthcare teams.
Achieving CAAHEP accreditation represents the culmination of extensive planning, program development, faculty leadership, clinical collaboration, and institutional investment.
The milestone reflects the work of MCC’s academic leadership, Diagnostic Medical Sonography faculty, staff, students, and clinical partners, all of whom contributed to developing and maintaining a program aligned with nationally established educational standards.
It also reinforces Midwestern Career College’s broader commitment to providing career-focused health professions education that prepares students for meaningful roles within contemporary healthcare environments.
With Initial Accreditation now in place, Midwestern Career College will continue working with CAAHEP and the JRC-DMS through the ongoing accreditation review process.
The college remains committed to supporting students throughout their classroom, laboratory, and clinical education while continuing to evaluate and strengthen the program in alignment with professional standards and evolving healthcare needs.
