MCC’s Surgical Technology Program Earns 10-Year Accreditation from CAAHEP

May 21, 2025

Midwestern Career College (MCC) is proud to announce that our AAS in Surgical Technology program has been awarded continued accreditation by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP)—the maximum 10-year term, effective through 2035.

This significant achievement reflects MCC’s unwavering commitment to quality education, student outcomes, and excellence in allied health training. The decision was based on a comprehensive review conducted by the Accreditation Review Council on Education in Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (ARC/STSA), and it confirmed that MCC’s program met every standard with all areas in compliance.

What This Accreditation Means

CAAHEP is the gold standard in allied health program accreditation. Its continued approval of MCC’s AAS in Surgical Technology means that our curriculum, instruction, and clinical experience meet the highest industry standards set by national experts in the field.

For our students, this accreditation ensures:

  • High-quality instruction aligned with national surgical technology competencies
  • Eligibility to sit for the NBSTSA certification exam upon graduation
  • Stronger employment prospects, as many healthcare employers require or prefer graduates of CAAHEP-accredited programs
  • Assurance that they are investing their time and effort in a program recognized for academic excellence and real-world preparation

“Surgical technologists are the unsung heroes of the operating room. Their precision, preparation, and dedication ensure every procedure runs smoothly and safely. Without them, surgical teams wouldn’t function at the high level patients depend on. At Midwestern Career College, our graduates enter the workforce equipped with the technical expertise and professional confidence to make an immediate impact in hospitals and surgical centers. They don’t just fill a role, they elevate the standard of care.”

— Brittany Burgess, Surgical Technology Program Director, Midwestern Career College

A Strong Future in Surgical Technology

MCC’s AAS in Surgical Technology prepares students to become vital members of surgical teams, supporting surgeons, anesthesiologists, and nurses in operating rooms across Chicago and beyond. The program blends academic rigor with practical, hands-on experience in real clinical settings.

Graduates may go on to work in hospitals, surgical centers, and other healthcare facilities, where demand for qualified surgical technologists continues to grow. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics projects above-average job growth in this field (1), driven by advances in surgical procedures and an aging population.

Accreditation Valid Through 2035

This 10-year accreditation is the longest term CAAHEP grants, and it demonstrates MCC’s proven track record in maintaining academic and clinical standards. The next evaluation is scheduled for 2035, providing a full decade of accredited program assurance for incoming and current students.

We extend our sincere gratitude to our faculty, clinical partners, and Career Services team, whose expertise, dedication, and collaboration make this program such a success.
