Midwestern Career College’s Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN) program focuses on educating practical nursing students to develop strong clinical skills and sound clinical judgment, enabling them to deliver safe, high-quality, and effective nursing care.
The curriculum emphasizes the practical application of theory acquired in the classroom and skills lab, translating learning into real-world patient care across a variety of clinical settings and simulation laboratories. The program is designed to prepare students to sit for the NCLEX-PN® and to enter the nursing profession as safe, competent licensed practical nurses.
Additionally, the curriculum supports students in achieving the end-of-program student learning outcomes (EPSLOs) and required professional competencies.

Simulation Lab Training in the LPN Program
The LPN Simulation Lab at MCC is a dedicated two-bed patient care lab designed to mirror a realistic clinical setting for LPN students.
The Simulation Lab uses MedVision’s adult high-fidelity “Leonardo” and pediatric “Arthur” patient manikins, as well as Gaumard mid-fidelity birthing manikin “Noelle”.
Each manikin has capabilities that support basic nursing skills and advanced features such as advanced airway, neurological, and physiological functions for realistic clinical training.
Learn more about the advanced capabilities of one of the manikins, the “Leonardo” manikin (pictured), from MedVision’s website.

Clinical Training
Midwestern Career College’s Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN) program includes 360 hours of clinical training, combining simulation-based learning with supervised clinical experiences.
Students practice in MCC’s Simulation Lab using high-fidelity MedVision adult manikin Leonardo, pediatric manikin Arthur, and the Gaumard mid-fidelity birthing manikin Noelle.
These tools allow students to engage in lifelike patient-care scenarios ranging from routine nursing skills to more complex clinical situations.
The Skills and Medication Labs provide structured, supervised practice in essential nursing skills, including medication preparation and administration, helping students develop accuracy, confidence, and patient-safety awareness.
Students complete their remaining clinical hours at MCC-affiliated healthcare partner sites in the Chicago area, gaining hands-on experience in real healthcare environments.
This comprehensive clinical training supports students’ transition from the academic setting into professional nursing practice by reinforcing clinical competence, confidence, and readiness for patient care.
