Staff Nurse
SUMMARY: The nurse is responsible for providing direct nursing care to the residents, and to supervise the day-to-day nursing activities performed by nursing assistants. Such supervision must be in accordance with current federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations that govern our facility, and as may be required by the Director of Nursing to ensure that the highest degree of quality care is maintained at all times.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Direct the day-to-day functions of the nursing assistants. Meet with your assigned nursing staff, as well as support personnel, in planning the shift’s services, programs and activities. Make written & oral reports/recommendations concerning the activities of the shift as required. Admit, transfer and discharge residents as required. Provide leadership to nursing personnel assigned to your unit/shift.  Complete & file required recordkeeping forms/charts upon the resident’s admission, transfer and/or discharge. Receive & transcribe telephone orders from physicians & record on the Physician’s Order Form. Chart nurse’s notes in an informative & descriptive manner that reflects the care provided to the resident, as well as the resident’s response to the care. Fill out and complete accident/incident reports & submit to Director as required. Perform routine charting duties as required & in accordance with established charting & documentation policies & procedures.

Prepare & administer medications as ordered by the physician.  Develop & maintain a good working rapport with inter-departmental personnel, as well as other departments within the facility to ensure that nursing services and activities can be adequately maintained to meet the needs of the residents. Create and maintain an atmosphere of warmth, personal interest and positive emphasis, as well as a calm environment throughout the unit and shift. Receive/give the nursing report upon reporting in and ending shift duty hours. Make rounds with physicians as necessary.  Administer professional services such as: catheterization, tube feedings, suction, applying and changing dressings/bandages, packs, colostomy, and drainage bags, taking blood, giving massages and range of motion exercises, care for the dead/dying, etc., as required. Monitor your assigned personnel to ensure that they are following established safety regulations in the use of equipment and supplies.  Maintain confidentiality of all resident care information including protected health information. Report known or suspected incidents of unauthorized disclosure of such information.  Ensure that all nursing care is provided in privacy and that nursing service personnel knock before entering the resident’s room.  Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.  Must possess a current, unencumbered, active license to practice as an LPN in the state of Illinois.  Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.  Must be able to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.  Must be knowledgeable of nursing & medical practices & procedures, as well as laws, regulations, and guidelines that pertain to nursing care facilities.  Current CPR Certification is required.  Experience in Long Term Care is preferred.

Ultrasound Technician (Sonagrapher)

The Women’s Group of Northwestern is seeking an experienced, clinically trained, highly motivated, and patient-friendly Ultrasound Technician (Sonagrapher) to Perform diagnostic ultrasound examinations for subsequent evaluation and treatment by the physicians in the specialty of Obstetrics and Gynecology.  All candidates must be registered (ARDMS) ultrasound technicians with a minimum of one year prior experience. Previous experience in OB/Gyn ultrasound is a plus.

Duties and responsibilities include:

  1. Performing all ultrasound techniques and examinations for obstetrics and gynecology patients.
  2. Using cognitive sonographic skills to identify, record and adapt procedures as appropriate to anatomical, pathological information and images.
  3. Maintaining ultrasound results in tracking system.
  4. Analyzing sonograms, synthesizes sonographic information and medical history and communicates findings to the appropriate physician.
  5. Demonstrating sensitivity to patient comfort and privacy while they are in the sonographer’s care.
  6. Maintaining ultrasound equipment and work area, including supplies.
  7. Participating in continuing education to maintain knowledge of current trends in the field to enhance expertise.
  8. Ensuring delivery of quality services.  Acts as an educational resource and is available for consultation to medical, nursing and administrative staff.
  9. Maintaining communication to ensure a smooth operation and continuity of care.
  10. Preparing daily accurate billing of all ultrasound procedures.
  11. Entering and retrieving data from EMR.
  12. Assisting with providing in-service education in techniques and proper use of equipment.

Education/Experience

  • Graduation from an ultrasonography school.

Position Responsibilities:

GENERAL PATIENT CARE – Meets the comfort and hygiene needs of the patient by providing care services such as bathing, oral hygiene procedures, hair care, bed pan/urinal use, skin care and garment, linen and bedding changes. TECHNICAL CARE – Assists with completion of patient testing and treatment procedures, sets up and primes IV tubing, 12-lead ECG, simple tracheostomy suctioning and care, changes dressings, performs cardiopulmonary resuscitation, obtains wound and throat cultures. Position Summary: Utilizes a defined skill set consistent with the basic educational program, certification, and relevant work experience to deliver direct care to the patient in the ambulatory setting. Working under the direct supervision/licensure of the physician, the Medical Assistant is an integral member of the health care team and is responsible for coordinating the pre/intra/post aspects of the medical visit. Those include direct care, registration & scheduling, physician-patient communication and other office-related tasks. In addition, will administer medication and works directly with other health care professionals at the site as well as ancillary department and services to coordinate care. Scheduling: Demonstrates initial and ongoing competency with the enterprise’s computerized scheduling systems for clinic appointments and ancillary testing. Telephone & Communications: Serves as the primary source of contact for clinical operations within the department.
