DuPage Medical Group’s Ambulatory Surgical Center is a multi-specialty ASC uniquely equipped with 8 operating rooms located in Lombard, IL. Our center operates Monday through Friday, NO CALL, NO HOLIDAYS. Specialties offered are: General Surgery, Ophthalmology, Orthopedic Surgery, Otolaryngology, GYNE, Plastic Surgery, Podiatry and Urology.

Hours: 3-12 hour shifts 6:30am-7:00pm. Occasional Saturday

Location: Lombard and Westmont

SUMMARY:

The Certified Surgical Technologist works under the supervision of the RN in delivering safe and effective care to the patient during the intraoperative period. Effectively interacts with the patient and health care team members, while maintaining the Surgical Department standards.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Has an understanding of the surgery being performed and anticipates the needs of the surgeon; has supplies and equipment available and/or open on sterile field. Has working knowledge of surgical instruments; can troubleshoot when necessary.

Understands and practices sterile technique; maintains and monitors the sterile field.

Participates in operating room set up, turnover, cleaning, and restocking.

Cleans, prepares, and sterilizes medical supplies and equipment.

Provides for efficient aseptic technique throughout surgical procedures in a safe, efficient manner.

Observes, recognizes, and anticipates common surgical complications, and assists with emergency care as needed. Reports unusual conditions to the RN.

Helps to prepare and preserve specimens.

Performs sponge and needle count with circulating nurse.

Performs duties relating to processing, sterilization, and maintenance of the surgical instruments, equipment, and supplies.

Understands and practices principles of sterilization, universal precautions, and hazardous materials management to process instruments, equipment, and supplies through the stages of decontamination.

Maintains documentation of biological indicators for sterile processing equipment.

Maintains appropriate instrument sets and supplies relating to their sterility, storage, and inventory levels.

Utilizes resources efficiently and contributes to cost containment efforts.

Competent to function efficiently in multiple services.

Maintains and demonstrates knowledge of AAAHC, IDPH, CMS,OSHA and AORN standards of care as well as regional and local standards of practice

Understands and practices sterile technique; maintains and monitors the sterile field.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum of one year experience as a Surgical Technologists or surgical scrub in a hospital.

Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.

High School Diploma.

BCLS Certification. (Renewed every two years)

Minimum of one year experience as a Surgical Technologists or surgical scrub in a hospital.

Must be a Certified Surgical Technologist through the Association of Surgical Technologists, or certification within 6 months of hire.
