Carla Pinto MD - Vocational English as a Second Language

I studied in MCC’s Vocational English as a Second Language program prior to being accepted at University of Illinois Chicago’s master of arts program in public health. MCC’s Vocational English as a Second Language program has devoted, knowledgeable teachers who challenge students and encourage you to work harder. The program has flexible schedules that I really appreciated.

Within public health, my goal is to study communities, community disparities and how to implement good health systems within the US and overseas. The Vocational English as a Second Language I received at MCC helped me feel comfortable in speaking with my peers. I improved my communication skills and now feel better prepared for graduate school in the US university system.

MCC’s program includes field trips to the zoo and museums so students get a sense of the city of Chicago. One of our teachers explained the road system in Chicago, which was really valuable to foreign students who wanted to better understand how to travel around Chicago. The instructors give you a very immersive experience in American culture by teaching idioms and American popular expressions.
