Unity and Celebrating Juneteenth | MCC College Community

Embracing Unity and Celebrating Juneteenth together as an MCC College Community

MCC Student Services spread the spirit of commemoration this week by giving away wristbands at our four campuses in Naperville, Evergreen Park, Chicago LaSalle Main Campus, and Chicago Wacker Campus. Thank you to all students that participated and proudly displayed their wristbands throughout the week!

Let’s honor and remember the significance of this historic celebration.

1) Juneteenth holds significant historical and cultural importance as it commemorates the emancipation of enslaved African Americans in the United States. This day symbolizes freedom, unity, and progress. As a community, we want to take this opportunity to come together and acknowledge the significance of Juneteenth.

2) By wearing these wristbands, students showed their support for this important milestone in American history and also expressed their solidarity with the African American community. Students proudly displayed their wristbands throughout the week.

3) Juneteenth holds immense significance for the United States as it represents the triumph of freedom over oppression and the struggle for equality. It serves as a powerful reminder of the resilience, perseverance, and contributions of African Americans throughout history. Juneteenth celebrates not only the end of slavery but also the indomitable spirit of a community that persevered against unimaginable odds. It is a day to honor the heroes who fought for justice and equality, and to reflect on the progress made while acknowledging the work that still lies ahead.

4) Juneteenth stands as a testament to the enduring spirit of freedom and the ongoing struggle for equality in the United States. It is a day of commemoration, reflection, and celebration—a time to honor the legacy of those who fought for freedom and to renew our commitment to creating a society where justice and equality prevail.

As we observe Juneteenth, let us embrace the lessons of the past, learn from them, and work together to build a future where every individual is truly free and equal.
