Position Summary

Five (5) Positions Available

Under direct supervision of higher level personnel, performs electroencephalographic (EEG),

evoked potentials (EP), and other neurophysiologic procedures in the Department of

Encephalography

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Acquires pertinent history from patient, family, or medical records.
  • Applies the theory of operation, controls, and recording mechanisms to the patient care situation.
  • Uses EEG and EP equipment for checking the impedance of applied electrodes.
  • Differentiates between artifacts and examples of normal and abnormal EEG and EP
  • patterns as well as notes clinical seizures and unusual occurrences
  • Key Responsibilities/Duties: Performs operative neurophysiologic procedures utilizing the techniques described above.
  • Adheres to operative guidelines in the performance of these responsibilities.
  • Utilizes sound judgment in determining scope and applicability of examination requested to the patient conditions that present.
  • Applies photic stimuli as required by the examination and directed by the attending physician.
  • Applies hyperventilation as required by the examination and directed by the attending
  • Stocks and prepares examination room prior to patient arrival.
  • Maintains a working knowledge of the EEG equipment in the department.
  • Adheres and complies with all regulatory requirements including, but not limited to JCAHO, IDPH and OSHA
  • Defers complex problems to the Chief Technologist or attending physician.
  • Reports equipment failures and potential problems related to the efficient operation of the department
  • Interacts on a daily basis with referring physicians in determining patient and examination requirements
  • Utilizes hospital-wide electronic information system for purposes including, but not limited to
  • requisitioning, results reporting, and medical record retrieval.
  • Interacts on a daily basis with patients and customers in order to provide directions, instructions and other related products
  • Provides support of general departmental functions in the absence of assigned staff.
  • Utilizes sound judgment and decision-making.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school graduate or equivalent
  • Successful completion of an accredited training program in electroencephalographic techniques.
  • Possession of a current/valid American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support CPR Certification.
