NICVS | Non-Invasive Cardiovascular Sonography | Healthcare Field

NICVS – The Fascinating Healthcare Field You’ve Never Heard Of

August 1, 2019. Non-Invasive Cardiovascular Sonography – or NICVS – can sound difficult, confusing, and even intimidating to prospective students. While no healthcare job is “easy,” NICVS is a rewarding career path with exciting opportunities to get trained, certified, and employed in cardiac sonography.

Sam Menke, a recent MCC graduate, knew he wanted to work in healthcare but was unsure about what program would be the best fit for him.

“While I was exploring healthcare positions, I came across sonography,” said Menke. “I was looking at general and cardiac, and cardiac just seems so much more interesting because the heart is a moving structure.”

However, being a proficient NICVS technologist involves more than EKGs and ultrasounds. Students at MCC also develop best practices for the workplace, including clinician decorum.

“Becoming a professional in the healthcare field has been one of the biggest challenges,” explained Menke. “It’s not like a retail position, it’s not like a landscape position, because it’s very professional. People’s lives are at stake. People depend on you.”

Menke argued that students should take initiative to get the most out of their education, no matter what healthcare careers they pursue.

“A lot of it is up to you,” said Menke. “The program will give you the tools to succeed, but it’s up to you to make it happen.”
